Ridanna Monteneve Mining Museum

The highest mine in Europe, and the longest producing silver, lead and zinc mine in the alpine region, has been turned into a mining museum, where visitors can delve into the world of mining. The Ridanna Monteneve mine, situated between the Passiria and Ridanna valleys, has survived almost in its entirety. The whole structure has been designed for adults and children alike to touch, explore and experience. A varied tour programme designed to appeal to a wide range of interest groups provides comprehensive insights into the 800-year-long history of the mine, with show galleries, mule paths, braking inclines, ore bins, horse and modern ropeways a well as the miners' Worker's House. The equipment and machinery displayed, which, for the most part, originates from Monteneve, is still functional and is operated during the tours. This enables the complex ore separation process to be demonstrated in a particularly clear manner.
